Civic Sense: Moving from Survival to Living

Civic sense refers to the unwritten social ethics, responsibilities, and courteous behaviors that individuals practice in public spaces to ensure a harmonious society. It involves respecting public property, obeying rules (such as traffic laws), maintaining cleanliness, and being considerate of others. Essentially, it is "how you behave when no one is watching." Why do many Indians struggle with this? Environment and Upbringing: It often starts at home. If a child suggests separating dry and wet waste, they might be told it is unnecessary because "it leaves the house anyway." Eventually, that child becomes an ambitious adult chasing a career. They may feel that sorting trash or waiting in line is a low priority compared to "more important" tasks that provide a financial cushion.
